Your wedding is special.
A harp at your wedding will provide you with beautiful music played on a beautiful instrument, creating the perfect atmosphere for you and your guests on your wedding day. Every wedding is unique, and I would be happy to work with you in order to match your individual vision.
You do not need to have harp music for all portions of the ceremony, however in order to assist you in your planning I have listed the most typical parts of wedding ceremonies which include harp music:
Prelude
This is the music which occurs as your guests are being seated . The length of pre-service music will depend on your wedding location and the number of guests you expect to attend. 15-30 minutes is typical.
Processional
Seating of the parents and grandparents, entrance of the attendants and flower girls/ring bearers.
The last and most important part of the processional is, of course, the entrance of the bride. Guests normally stand for the entrance of the bride as she makes her grand entrance, so for the bridal processional the harpist usually plays the most stately and majestic of the processional selections.
Ceremony
Many couples choose to take a moment during the ceremony to reflect and request a special song during a moment of reflection, background music for the lighting of the unity candle or a meditative piece after a prayer. Many shorter services do not require any harp music during the actual ceremony.
Recessional
At the end of the ceremony, after the kiss and the announcement of the couple, a joyful selection is normally played for the couple and the attendants as they exit.
Musical Selections
Some people have specific melodies they want for their wedding, while other couples simply request that Nicolas select pieces based on the emotions of the moment. One of Nicolas’ unique skills is the ability to improvise and not rely on a written score so he can adjust the length of a piece as appropriate to the moment. Nicolas is also able to observe the wedding and adjust the sound to match the moment; imagine a soft flourish each time the flower girl drops a handful of petals, a grand entrance for the bride, or a dramatic prolonged note at the moment the couple lights the unity candle.
These are just a few of the musical selections that are popular wedding selections:
Canon in D (Pachabel)
The Wedding March (Mendelssohn)
Bridal Chorus (Wagner)
Ave Maria (Bach)
Ode to Joy (Beethoven)
Jesu Joy of Man’s Desiring (Bach)
The Ash Grove
Greensleeves
I have a wide repertoire of traditional requests and am happy to learn new pieces with a few weeks notice.
